Dear Parents and Guardians,

As I take on the role of Chairman of the School Management Committee, it is my honor to present a renewed vision for Kathmandu University High School (KUHS) as we embark on this journey of educational innovation. As the laboratory school of the Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED), our school is now in the unique position where tradition and innovation go hand in hand, and theoretical bases meet practical experience.

We seek to establish KUHS as a lab school where educational research is applied in the classroom. As the laboratory for KUSOED's educational innovations, we are dedicated to creating pedagogy that will showcase better educational processes and outcomes in Nepal and beyond. This synergy ensures that your child is educated according to the latest research while contributing to the development of teaching practice across the country.

At the center of our pedagogy is experiential learning, which is a rich method that transcends mere rote memorization to develop hands-on, tangible engagement with knowledge. We envision classrooms that stretch out toward laboratories, community, and the world at large so that students engage actively with the construction of their knowledge through direct experience, experimentation, and reflection.

We will develop young citizens through ‘student government’, civic engagement, debate clubs, and social justice initiatives who are aware of their rights and responsibilities, are respectful of diversity, and are actively engaged in democratic citizenship.

Our curriculum will also involve field trips, project work, internships, and collaborative research projects so that our students have an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical purposes. Whether our students are studying ecological processes in the nearby forests, conducting social research in the nearby communities, or developing entrepreneurial businesses, they will learn by doing, with clear connections between course work and practice.

We believe that education is better when schools are grounded in communities.

KUHS will be a bridge, connecting learning in the classroom to life in the community, drawing connections to community organizations, businesses, and cultural institutions. Our students will be involved with community service projects, cultural preservation projects, and local economic development projects, instilling in them a strong sense of social responsibility and community involvement.

This focus on community makes our graduates aware of themselves as society citizens with a sense of responsibility, possessing the knowledge and skills to respond to the local and international needs and demands and yet grounded in their culture.

Our learning philosophy is consistent with holistic growth where we pay attention to developing the hard as well as the soft skills required to succeed in the 21st century. While being academically rigorous in the core, we also give equal emphasis on critical thinking, communication, teamwork, creativity, and emotional intelligence. Our graduates would not only be technically sound but also possess leadership, cultural competence, and ethical decision-making.

At the center of our vision is citizenship education that will prepare students to be reflective, participating, and active citizens in a democratic society. Together, we will build a learning community that will equip your children not only for academic success but for meaningful, productive lives as world citizens with Nepali values as their base.

We value your trust and cooperation throughout this transformation process.

Sincerely,

Prof. Bal Chandra Luitel, PhD
