JOINT SCHOOL TEACHERS' WORKSHOP: A PLATFORM TO ENHANCE TEACHERS COMPETENCIES

On Saturday, 16 May 2026, a JS Teachers' Workshop was organized for teachers of Grades 1 to 10 at three different venues. The workshops focused on enhancing teaching practices, educational philosophy, and project-based learning.

For Grades 1 to 3, the workshop was hosted by St. Mary's School under the theme “Where Heart Work Meets Hard Work.” Tulasi Niraula facilitated the session. In the first half of the workshop, the focus was on the importance of building connections before correction. The concept of "power position" was introduced, which many teachers found useful for classroom practice.

During the second session, participants shared their learning and reflected on their classroom experiences based on different educational philosophies. The major discussion centered on increasing learners' efficiency through scaffolding strategies that help reduce the workload of facilitators while enhancing student engagement and understanding.

For Grades 4 to 8, the workshop was hosted by St. Xavier's School, Godavari, on the theme “Project-Based Learning.” Mr. Parashuram Niraula facilitated the session. The topic was highly engaging and became even more meaningful when connected with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 21st century. Teachers learned the importance of integrating SDGs into classroom projects so that students can become responsible individuals capable of protecting and sustaining resources for future generations. It was also emphasized that teachers of every subject should contribute toward achieving SDGs through project work.

For Grades 9 and 10, the workshop was organized by KUHS at St. Xavier's School, Jawalakhel, and facilitated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Binod Prasad Pant. Throughout the sessions, teachers explored practical ways to design classroom projects that connect with real-life problems and encourage students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and develop creativity. Group activities were conducted both within subject groups and across different disciplines, making the discussions lively, interactive, and diverse. Teachers also presented their ideas and suggestions, which added richness to the workshop experience.

By the end of the day, participants felt inspired and confident about preparing lesson plans and assessments suitable for project-based learning environments. The workshop was not only informative but also warm, interactive, and empowering, leaving teachers motivated to bring fresh and meaningful approaches into their classrooms.

Since, the drive was for 1 hour 30 minutes we chattered non-stop until we reached Patan. We had got a worksheet to fill earlier as we explored Patan. So, as soon as we got out of the bus with our colleagues and started looking around filling our worksheet. Then, we started to walk in Patan Durbar Square. JS PAINTING AND DRAWING WORKSHOP

Participating in JS workshop was a new experience. JS Painting and Drawing Workshop was based on teamwork and art skills. Around 36 participants from different school of JS have participated on the workshop. We did thumb print which was quite new experience as it we created a beautiful art in canvas without using brush and paint. Students from other schools were also very good at art. As a team member within different schools, we all respected and helped each other. Although it was very challenging, at the end we completed it. We had a great time while participating in the event. I am very much thankful for the school for providing this opportunity to take part in this workshop. This workshop helped me to understand the art. In addition, this workshop taught me how to collaborate in the team.

A VISIT TO THE ZOO

On 28 May, 2026 we surprisingly went to the zoo. The destination doesn't matter but our togetherness matters more. We viewed all the animals in the zoo. When we went to see the chimpanzee, it was spitting at us so. Pleas, be careful when you see chimpanzees. When we are going to have our snacks, it rained so we went to the bus and ate our snacks and went to school.

A VISIT TO BHAKTAPUR DURBAR SQUARE

Bhaktapur Durbar Square: A place where laughter fills the air, Gods and Goddesses fill our heart and historic knowledge fill our mind. Our school took 7th grade to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. First, we gathered outside the bus. We all stayed in a line and explored the Dattatraya temple. The temple was unique and beautiful. Then, we visited Lokta paper factory nearby. In the factory we saw beautiful handmade stamps and statues. The paper was made through a plant called Lokta, boiled for four hours then cooled in a paper frame to make the paper. It was very fun to look at the process of making Nepali paper and interacting with the workers. After we explored the paper factory, we went to Nyatapola Temple. The temple was made for Goddess Taleju: There were 5 stories and each step had a guardian. The first step had Jay Malla and Phatta Malla then elephants, then lions, then grifins and then 2 Goddesses. Then, we took rest there for about 30 minutes and decided to visit the museum. Since, the museum was not opened, we just explored the other surroundings. We visited the golden gate, Goddess Taleju, Runche Pohari. We even went to the Siddha Pokhari but it was getting renovated. So, we went to another pond inside Bhaktapur multiple campus. Finally, we concluded our memorable and exciting visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square and got on the bus for returning back to School.

STEPPING INTO NEWAR ROYALTY

Stepping through the golden gates of Hanuman Dhoka Palace in the heart of Kathmandu Durbar Square feels less like walking directly into Nepal's medieval past. My first impression was dominated by the vivid red-smeared statue of the monkey god, Hanuman, standing guard at the main entrance. The transition from the chaotic, modern energy of new road to the serene, historic atmosphere of the ancient royal seat of the Malla and Shah dynasties was immediate and breathtaking.

Exploring Kathmandu Durbar Square provides visitors with historic experiences that showcases its ancient wooden places and impressive pagodas along with active religious sites. We need to protect these sacred spaces through active participation because we are current generation.

ECHOES OF HISTORY: OUR JOURNEY INTO ANCIENT KIRTIPUR

On May 26, 2026, we embarked on an educational excursion to the historic city of Kirtipur. Accompanied by teachers and equipped with project worksheets, we left school at 9:30 am for an immersive history lesson that brought their textbooks to life.

Key Stops of the Excursion:

  • Adinath Temple: The journey began at this serene site, known for its unique wood carvings and traditional architecture. We observed a moving tradition where visitors attach metal plates to the temple walls inscribed with the names of departed loved ones.
  • Bagh Bhairab Temple: Next, we visited this famous shrine, which features a massive bell and panoramic valley views. The highlight was seeing 300-year-old weapons—swords, knives, and shields—affixed to the walls. Teachers explained these were used during King Prithvi Narayan Shah's historic assault on Kirtipur, making the city's fierce history feel incredibly real.
  • Uma Maheshwor Temple: Perched at the tour's highest altitude, the final stop offered intricate wooden structures narrating the ancient settlement's history. The top provided a spellbinding, serene atmosphere for quiet reflection.

A Heartfelt Gratitude: This excursion served as a sensory bridge connecting students to their country's religious, cultural, and historical significance. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the school administration and teachers for providing such an enriching trip, leaving them with cherished lifetime memories.

We the students of grade 10 went for excursion to Nepal's living heritage Patan Durbar Square. Visiting Patan was a wonderful and memorable experience for me with my friends. The place is rich in culture, history, tradition and rituals. I was really amazed by the beautiful carved windows, palace and stone statues built by the Malla Kings. This opportunity allowed me to know the creativity and hard work of Nepali craftsmen existed from the years. Then one of the most interesting place for me was Sundari Chowk which reflects the beauty of traditional Newari architecture. I also got to see and receive blessings from the longest chariot festival Rato Machhindranath. During the visit, I observed local workshop where craftsmen were continuously shaping metal statues, carving wood and creating sculptures. Their dedication inspired me to respect and value Nepal's cultural heritage. I realized preserving these historical places is very important for future generation. Overall, a visit to Patan Durbar Square gave me both knowledge and inspiration. The visit helped me understand the rich culture and history of Nepal. It was not only educational rather was unforgettable.
